Bret Lee Luckett Thompson on Thursday was sentenced in Denver District Court to at least 24 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
Thompson, 29, was sentenced to 18 years for second-degree kidnapping and at least six years for sexual assault on a child, to be served consecutively.
Under Colorado law, sexual assault sentences are indeterminate, meaning that the offender may be imprisoned for life. If the state parole board does allow Thompson’s release, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
At trial, Thompson claimed he was insane, but jurors decided he was not.
