DENVER—The former bookkeeper at a Cortez business-supply store has pleaded guilty to four counts of tax evasion.
Brian K. Shoults of Mesa, Ariz., was accused of defrauding Office Outpost of $255,000 and forging his W-2 tax forms to hide the gains.
The Durango Herald reports () Shoults pleaded guilty Wednesday to four counts of income tax fraud in exchange for prosecutors dropping 123 counts of wire fraud.
His plea agreement says Shoults has pledged to pay $262,413 in restitution to Office Outpost’s owner and $66,616 to the Internal Revenue Service.
Shoults is due to be sentenced Sept. 9 in federal court in Denver. His lawyer is arguing for a sentence of 15 to 21 months in prison, while federal prosecutors say a sentence of 21 to 27 months is appropriate.
