BROOMFIELD — Breckenridge Ski Resort and local conservationists, including Denver-based Rocky Mountain Wild, have reached an agreement to avoid litigation over the ski area’s Peak 6 expansion, which could affect local Canada lynx populations.

As a part of the deal, the resort will now contribute $425,000 to a National Forest Foundation fund previously established to address lynx habitat improvements in Summit County. It initially had pledged $300,000. Breckenridge also agreed to no further expansion to the north; to advocate with the U.S. Forest Service to minimize impacts on lynx in placing any future backcountry access point; and to limit any permanent restaurant structure on Peak 6 below tree line.

BSR plans to open the new terrain for the 2013-14 ski season.
