DENVER—Former Colorado parole director Tim Hand says he feared retribution from gang members who were in state prison and he got police protection.
Hand tells the Denver Post ( ) Fort Collins police installed a new alarm system in Hand’s home and assigned officers to guard his residence after his name came up as part of an investigation into the shooting of Department of Corrections chief Tom Clements in March
The Colorado Department of Corrections said Thursday Hand has been dismissed. The department didn’t release reasons, and Hand didn’t return a phone message seeking comment.
The state’s parole system came under scrutiny after Clements’ slaying. The suspect, who died in a shootout in Texas, slipped out of his ankle monitoring bracelet days earlier without being detected by parole officers.
