No, it’s not early 2005 and no, we won’t add you to our Top 8 friends. But 10 years after its debut as a social media site, Myspace is getting a makeover with the help of an industry that’s managed to survive for much longer — late night TV.
The new music venture begins this Tuesday, June 17 with a performance from . To watch the concert live as it happens on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” viewers just have to visit Myspace. (Note the new, lowercase “s”).
Myspace, , has been rebranded as an interactive music platform, providing new ways for fans to find up-and-coming artists, keeps tabs on bands they already like, and share with others. Artists can promote their music, and learn more about what fans like most.
Like most other late night shows, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” wraps up episodes with a live music performance, but Kimmel is known for creating a more “concert-like” experience, featuring big names and relative unknowns.
Doug DeLuca, the show’s executive producer, said the concert collaboration has been in the works for almost a year.
“Since the beginning, we have really focused on music at ‘Kimmel,’”. “But it always bummed us out, that did a great set, but we’ve never utilized all of the off-air tracks.”
Live-streamed concerts will happen about once a month for now, with more planned in the future.
