A boy who had been fishing was rushed to a Fort Collins hospital Tuesday morning after he was found floating near the shore of a neighborhood pond and was later pronounced dead.
The name of the juvenile has not been released.
He was unresponsive when he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, said Rita Davis, Fort Collins police spokeswoman.
Emergency workers were called at about 10:30 a.m. on a report of a male floating a few feet from the shore of West Side Pond near Seneca Road, Davis said.
It appeared that he had fallen from a chair. Witnesses had seen the person fishing alone earlier in the day. His fishing gear was discovered nearby.
Davis said there are no obvious signs of foul play.
