In Colorado’s hot, dry summer conditions, your skin needs all the moisture and protection it can get.
Jody Knapp of Kiehl’s in Cherry Creek Shopping Center says there are plenty of products that multitask to meet the job. Priority one for men and women should be to protect their face and body from the sun’s burning rays. Next should come moisturizing and products that firm, lift and freshen the skin. Kiehl’s, which has been around since 1851, keeps its products free of fragrance, parabens and other things that can upset the skin, says Knapp, who recommends these items.
1Sun protection. For your face, if you’re not wearing a foundation or moisturizer with sunscreen, try a powerful but lightweight lotion like Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+, $38. It has a sun-protection factor of 50+ and blocks both UVA rays with avobenzone, and UVB rays with octyl salicylate and octocrylene, which is water-resistant. Kiehl’s also has an easy to use spray-on product, Activated Sun Protector Sunscreen for Body, SPF 50, $25.
2BB Cream with SPF 50. In four shades, this cream for women takes the place of foundation. It also offers good sun protection, makes the skin tone appear more even, and hydrates, $37.
3Facial Fuel Sky Flyin’ Foaming Multi-Gel. This men’s product can be used both for cleansing the face and as a shaving gel, $19. It’s gentle on the skin to minimize redness, and features vitamins C and E, bamboo and lemon and orange peel extracts.
4Skin Rescue. Heat or stress get to your skin? This product features rosa gallica, which helps reduce redness, blotchiness and dullness, $40.
5Cucumber Toner. After too much time in the heat of the day, a little spritz of this toner, starting at $11, is soothing for dry and sensitive skin. This alcohol-free product has been in the Kiehl’s line for more than 40 years. Knapp recommends putting the bottle in the fridge so the liquid stays cool, and applying with a cotton pad after cleansing or anytime as a freshener.
