ASPEN, Colo.—Patience is running thin for Pitkin County officials who are tired of tractor-trailer drivers who try to illegally use Independence Pass.
In addition to higher fines, commissioners are considering more traffic signs and even a so-called “hearts and minds” campaign in an effort to convince trucking company dispatchers it’s a bad idea to route trucks over the pass.
According to the Aspen Daily News (), there is no room for a tractor-trailer and cars traveling the opposite direction, forcing smaller vehicles to back up and jamming up traffic.
