COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A man convicted of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl in Colorado Springs has been sentenced to 224 years to life in prison.
The Gazette reports ( ) District Judge Timothy J. Schutz sentenced 24-year-old Leonard Wayne Palmer on Friday. Palmer was convicted in April of rape, kidnapping and child enticement.
Prosecutors say he had escaped a jail in Epps, La., with a fellow inmate only days before the Oct. 25, 2011, attack. He was accused of intercepting the girl on her morning walk to the bus stop, dragging her into an alley and raping her.
Palmer had been convicted of nine prior felonies.
