Most include some serious appeal for crowd-funding as it relates to the sanctity of art, or lending a hand in the eternal struggle of artist vs. soulless commercial machine.
But what if you just wanna buy 1,000 people ice cream cones and then make a movie about it?
That’s the new Kickstarter mission of , the hosts of the L.A.-based . Their plan is simple: , buy 1,000 ice cream cones at Denver’s on South Broadway, hand them out the denizens of the Mile High City and film the whole thing.
“What better (way) to spread whimsy and magic than a random gift of an ice cream cone from somebody that’s on the Internet?” Morris asks on the video above.
Indeed, sir. Indeed.
As of this writing, the project has 105 backers pledging $1,671, with nine days to go. The money will go toward travel costs for the Morris, Thorn, the director of the documentary, and the folks at Sweet Action for their product and, presumably, mad cone-packing skills. (Thorn apparently chose Sweet Action because he’s friends with the owners.)
“We’ve already lined up our venue, and they’ve assured us they can do the ice cream making and scooping,” they wrote on the Kickstarter site. “Any video project can have production delays, but we have an accomplished, Webby award-winning director and will be hiring a pro crew. We think this is going to be a blast.”
And just to sweeten the deal: anything they raise above the $9,500 will go to a children’s charity. So this can’t just be a joke, can it? Or maybe it’s an earnest attempt at whimsy wrapped in chocolate and sugar cones?
Who cares? Now who wants (free) ice cream?
