Denver-based announced Wednesday that with the addition of its 4,000th member, it has become the largest luxury destination club in the world by number of members.

Inspirato said that it has added more than 1,000 new members in 2013 alone, and now manages and controls nearly $500 million in luxury real estate.

“Our 4,000th member is a tremendous milestone for the company,” said Brent Handler, founder and CEO of Inspirato.

“Our club continues to grow at a formidable pace.”

Inspirato noted that backed by private equity partners including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Institutional Venture Partners, Inspirato is the first luxury destination club to lease rather than own its properties. As a result, it said, members avoid paying the six-figure upfront fees common in the industry.

“Inspirato is setting the standard for luxury travel experiences. Their unique business model gives members access to luxury without the many hassles that come with ownership,” said Ted Schlein, general partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
