GREELEY, Colo.—A former Windsor Middle School principal accused of punching his wife and breaking one of her ribs has been sentenced to six months in jail on work release.

The Greeley Tribune reports Doug Englert also was sentenced Thursday to serve three years on probation, complete 48 hours of public service, and complete domestic violence counseling.

Englert pleaded guilty last month to felony menacing. He has resigned as principal.

He apologized in court to his family, community and school board.
