BOULDER, Colo.—The Boulder County Coroner’s Office says it can’t determine if a man who was found shot to death died as the result of a suicide, homicide or accident.
The Daily Camera reports ( ) Coroner Emma Hall has ruled 37-year-old Edgar Olivas’ manner of death is “undetermined.”
Sheriff’s deputies called to a Boulder home Jan. 3 found Olivas dead from a gunshot wound to his chest.
Investigators say 35-year-old Carla Bencomo, who had dated Olivas, told them he was showing her a gun when he said “How far are you willing to go to pay for my death?” and pulled the weapon toward his chest, causing it to fire.
Bencomo, who says she wiped the scene down and put the gun in Olivas’ hand, is charged with attempting to influence a public official and tampering with evidence.
