Crews were working in reverse at the Boulder Valley Velodrome in Erie on Wednesday morning, busily unscrewing plywood sheets and disassembling structural supports in an attempt to undo the massive damage wrought by a ferocious rain and wind storm last weekend.

About a third of the 250-meter cycling track was toppled and smashed after a storm with unusually high wind speeds tore through Erie on Saturday afternoon.

During the storm, weather watchers reported 2- to 3-inch hail, 69 mph winds and rainfall rates of up to 4 inches an hour in Erie.

The rain and winds caused flooded roads, downed trees, power outages and damage to buildings, houses, transformers, street signs and fences, according to Mountain View Fire Rescue. There also were multiple overturned vehicles, including a semi-truck and a construction trailer.
