COLORADO SPRINGS —A Colorado Springs woman who served as a juror at a 2012 trial involving the dragging death of a tow-truck driver says she was fired for missing work, and she wants her former employer to pay up for lost wages and damages.

In a wrongful termination suit filed earlier this year in U.S. District Court in Denver, Tina M. Crum alleges she was harassed and ultimately dismissed as an administrative assistant at a Northwestern Mutual office downtown because of the three weeks she spent on a panel in the closely watched trial of Detra Dione Farries.

The suit names then-boss Adam L. Way as the sole defendant, alleging that he pressured Crum to quit jury duty while the February 2012 trial was in session, and forced her to work make-up hours amid complaints she was disrupting workflow.

Way, an insurance salesman, and his attorney, Kato Crews, did not respond to voice messages Wednesday requesting comment.

If successful, Crum could be eligible to collect a year of missed pay – about $32,000 – as well as damages up to three times that amount, her attorney said.

The suit also alleges that Crum is owed roughly $10,000 in unpaid overtime.
