AURORA — Look for fewer teenagers hanging out in late afternoon and early evening over the next several months.
The Colorado High School Activities Association’s 93rd year on record welcomes athletes across the seasonal board Monday as the number of fall sports in full swing climbs to nine. Competitors in boys and girls cross country, field hockey, football, gymnastics, boys soccer, softball and volleyball will be starting preseason drills.
Boys golf started regular-season matches last week and will be joined this week by boys tennis Thursday and by softball Friday.
Football will offer spotty Zero Week play from Aug. 23-24, but the widespread target date for all fall sports competition is Aug. 29.
The fall season’s state championships, beginning with boys golf Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, wrap up Nov. 30 with the Class 5A and 4A title games in football at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
