DENVER—A felon who escaped from Denver’s jail, allegedly with help from a deputy, has been sentenced to 34 years in prison after pleading guilty to robbery and escape charges.
Felix Trujillo was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for the escape in addition to 24 years for his role in a 2012 robbery.
Trujillo was awaiting sentencing for the robbery when he walked out of the city’s new jail on April 7 wearing a deputy’s cap and jacket.
Former Deputy Matthew Andrews has been charged with helping Trujillo escape. He’s scheduled to enter a plea Aug. 19.
Investigators say Andrews told co-workers he helped Trujillo because he’d been threatened and had been told there was a contract out on him and his family.
