A recall has been issued for fish sold at stores in Denver and Arvada because of concerns over possible listeria contamination.

The Gold Star Smoked Fish Corp. issued the recall on Monday for herring fillets in oil sold under the brands Baltic Treasures, Norwegian Style Matjes, Marinella “Delicatessnaya,” Jewish Style Matjes, Traditional Russian Matjes and Rybacka Wies Matjes.

The Colorado Department of Public Health said the herring was sold at M&I International Market, 909 South Oneida Street in Denver, Black Sea Market, 7920 E. Mississippi Ave. in Denver, and at Gastronom, 10050 Ralston Rd., in Arvada.

The voluntary recall was issued after tests of samples of the product revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Customers who have purchased the product should return it to the store where they bought it, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.

No illnesses have been reported in connection to the recall.
