An Arapahoe County woman was granted a restraining order against her on-again, off-again boyfriend four days before police said he fatally stabbed her in her apartment, court records show.

The terms of the protection order issued Aug. 3 also barred Arthur William Price, 28, from drinking alcoholic beverages, but Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies said he was extremely intoxicated the night of Aug. 7, when his mother called 911 to report that her son had “sliced up a lady.”

Deputies who went to in Centennial found the body of Katrina Pacheco, 39, and a belligerent Price, who they said kicked one deputy and threw a vodka bottle at another, according to an affidavit supporting his arrest. Prosecutors have charged him with first-degree murder in the killing of Pacheco. Deputies said he had a blood-alcohol content of .450 at the time of his arrest, more than five times the legal limit to drive.

Price’s mother told authorities the two had an on-again, off-again dating relationship. Neighbors, who had seen Price holding what appeared to be a folding knife, told police they had heard the two fighting before. On the night of the killing, they heard Pacheco yell “Do you want to go back to jail?” the affidavit says.

Court records show Price has a lengthy criminal background that includes prior arrests for assault, drugs and violating protection orders.
