STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden plans to close its runway for about 60 days next spring so it can be resurfaced.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports ( ) resurfacing of the asphalt is required about every 10 years. Other areas of the airport also will have asphalt work done.

Air services will be suspended during the work on the runway. The airport hopes to have the runway open again before traffic typically picks up in June.

Airport manager Dave Ruppel says the shoulder season between ski season and the summer traditionally only has about two commercial flights departing daily.

The airport will continue administrative operations during the runway closure.
