COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials have euthanized a female black bear that was relocated more than 150 miles south of Colorado Springs in April but came back.

Agency spokesman Randy Hampton tells The Gazette () the bear was caught April 2 near Colorado Highway 115 and Lake Avenue. Wildlife officials tagged it and released it in Las Animas County.

Hampton said Wednesday the same bear was caught Tuesday off East Pikes Peak Avenue, east of North Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

Wildlife officials euthanized it under Colorado’s “two-strike” policy, in which bears can be killed if they return to a spot where they threaten public safety.

The bear is different from bears spotted elsewhere in town in recent weeks.

Wildlife officials are urging residents to store their trash securely.
