Remote, rugged terrain complicated the fight against the Franks Bench fire in the Uncompahgre National Forest on Sunday. The fire had grown to 35 acres but no structures were threatened and no roads or trails had been closed, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire is about 5 miles southwest of the Divide Forks Campground and ATV Complex, or about 35 miles south of Grand Junction in Mesa County.
Lightning is the suspected cause of the fire, which was first reported Friday.
Two wildland fire crews of seven or eight members each, a Bureau of Land Management fire engine and other resources are battling the blaze.
