Registration opens for golden gallop 5k,10k fun

The Golden Schools Foundation annual Golden Gallop 5K/10K/Kid’s Fun Run will be held on Oct. 6 and will begin under the city arch. To register before Aug. 31 and save a few bucks, go to www .goldengallop.mycustomevent .com.

Jeffco Safety Awareness Day coming up. The community safety fair is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. Sixth Ave., Golden.

Free document shredding (limit five boxes), small electronics recycling (nominal fee), a prescription roundup, a bicycle rodeo with free helmets for kids and free parking lot shuttle are all on the agenda.

Lariat Loop casino night fundraiser is Aug. 23. Lookout Mountain Residents United invite you to dinner, dancing and a Wild West casino night fundraiser for Canyon Area Residents for the Environment at the Crystal Rose on Aug. 23.

Tickets are $50 per person with funds raised going to legal costs incurred while trying to maintain the integrity and historical nature of part of the Lariat Loop.

Free elder-law consultations available. The Self-Help Center of the 1st Judicial District (Gilpin and Jefferson counties) is providing an opportunity for people with legal questions regarding probate or elder-law matters to meet with an attorney for 15 minutes.

The Ask-an-Attorney sessions are confidential and free of charge. Topics may include trusts, estates, wills (probate with and without a will), adult guardianships and conservatorships, and powers of attorney.

Sessions are held on the second and fourth Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Room 2040, Golden. Attorneys are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
