For a second consecutive year the Colorado School of Mines set a fundraising record, with $35.4 million in donations in 2012-13.

Included among the gifts to the school were $1 million commitments from Steve and Dollie Chesebro’ and from Robert E. III and Anne McKee toward construction of the Clear Creek Athletics Complex, which will provide new facilities for student-athletes, coaching staff, and the broader community.

Those facilities will include a new stadium and athletics center and improved facilities for soccer and track & field.

Also among the donations is a $3.5 million commitment from Denver-based Cimarex Energy Co., which will establish the F.H. “Mick” Merelli/Cimarex Energy Distinguished Department Head Chair in Petroleum Engineering.

There were more than 3,760 donations to the school, which now as an endowment fund of about $230 million.

“Support for the university translates directly into support for our students,” said Brian Winkelbauer, executive vice President for university advancement. “More than 80 percent of students rely on private funding, and our donors know that their gifts help offset the costs of higher education.”
