A cab driver who took a nap by the side of a highway in Golden on Monday told police he woke up to find a man holding a gun to his head and demanding all of his money, police said.
Golden police continue to search for the robber, whom they described as Hispanic, about 5-foot-6 and 200 pounds. The cab driver told detectives he had just finished taking people from a casino in Black Hawk about 7:30 a.m. when he pulled over near the junction of U.S. 6 and Colorado 58, Golden police said.
The driver relinquished his cash to the man, who then got into the passenger side of a vehicle, possibly a Buick with Arizona plates, that sped away. The taxi driver told police his assailant had a thick accent, a long black ponytail and a scar on the left side of his face. He was wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and white tennis shoes, police said.
