
The arraignment of a woman suspected of killing an 85-year-old man in a hit-and-run crash was continued Thursday until Sept. 20.
Latoya Nelson, 29, who is free on $50,000 bond, is accused of vehicular homicide/reckless driving and .
Denver police say Nelson was driving south on Kalamath Street at about 3:45 p.m. on March 27, ran a red light at 13th Avenue and crashed into a car driven by Herrera. Herrera died at the scene. Nelson ran away and was captured that night, police say.
Nelson’s public defender was sick and a new lawyer, who hadn’t had time to get up to speed on her case, took over for him on Thursday.
Nelson appeared in Denver District Court, a GPS monitor cinched to her ankle.
