Metallics in a modern mountain lodge. Sixteen shades of gray accented by yellows and golds. Traditional furnishings with a pink and orange palette.

Turquoise and leopard print?

If you think these color themes sound impossible, the interior designers participating in the room-vignette challenge at the Colorado Fall Home Show are itching to prove you wrong.

The annual renovation expo kicks off Friday at the Colorado Convention Center. Its theme is “Sustain, Renew, Inspire” — but the free interior-design seminars have a core curriculum of color. For example: “The Colorful Kitchen,” at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sept. 6 and 1 p.m. Sept. 8; “Does This Room Make Me Feel Happy? The Psychology of Color,” at noon Sept. 7 and 11 p.m. Sept. 8; and “Menage a Trois: Combining Light, Color and Texture,” at 2 p.m. Sept. 7 and noon Sept. 8.

For HGTV addicts, designer Joyce A. Clegg, a veteran of “My First Place” and “Rescue Renovation,” will explain what’s real and useful about such programs — and what’s not. “Beyond HGTV: Facts and Fantasies” is on tap at 3 p.m. Sept. 6 and 5 p.m. Sept. 7.

Want just a survey of what’s fresh? Check out “What’s Hot: Current and Upcoming Trends” at 1 p.m. Sept. 6, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 7.
