Two companies are submitting plans to build the first gas station and convenience store on the E-470 beltway.
Their proposals call for at a now unused toll plaza building south of Jewell Avenue in Aurora.
Both firms — Chiti, LLC and 7-Eleven — submitted their qualifications to E-470 in July. They are now being asked to present their ideas on how to finance, develop and operate the facility.
Chiti, based in Parker, is a real estate development and investment firm with experience in developing gas stations in metro Denver and elsewhere, said E-470 officials.
7-Eleven operates 118 gas station-convenience stores in metro Denver.
If one of the two is accepted, the store could be ready to open in 2014.
The site selected for the first retail store, known as Toll Plaza B, has about 15 acres of developable land and a 5,600-square-foot building.
E-470’s five toll plaza buildings were closed in 2009 after the tollway stopped manual toll collection, converting to all-electronic tolling.
