Two 5-year-old boys were saved from drowning at Cherry Creek State Park on Saturday after a passer-by saw them floating and rushed in the water.
The bystander saw one of the boys not moving and while swimming to save him, noticed a second boy also appearing to drown, said Arapahoe County sheriff bureau chief Louie Perea.
The boys were unconscious when they were pulled out of the water, but people on the beach who knew CPR were able to resuscitate them. The boys, who were not brothers but knew each other, were doing well. They were admitted overnight to a hospital for observation, Perea said.
The boys were about 15 to 20 feet from shore when they were rescued, he said. The passer-by spotted the boys at about the same time family members realized the kids were in trouble, Perea said.
The rescue happened just after 6 p.m.
