Interview with Jeff Wasden, partner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: Lisa, one of our partners, has been in production and doing embroidery for 20-plus years. Monica, my wife and business partner, has been involved in finance her whole life. I have spent a life talking, so we each have our own strengths and sandboxes. Lisa handles production and embroidery, along with digitizing; Monica handles all things financial; and I get the fun job of marketing and sales and working directly with our great customers.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: One big differentiating point is we are an in-house decoration company. From screen print to embroidery, heat press names and numbers, direct-to-garment printing to decals and banners, it is all done at our store location. We have a team of employees that care and want to make sure your job is done on time. The dedication and commitment of our employees is amazing. We have a lot of late night “parties” at the store with several staff members working to ensure jobs are done on time.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: The fast pace and diversity of jobs, work and clients. We love seeing the smiles and absolute joy on clients’ and kids’ faces when they get their order. Those in this line of work will know how neat it is to see your work in the community as folks are wearing “your” hats, jackets, shirts, letter jackets and uniforms.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: Wanting to grow and expand and take on more work, but will not oversell or promise and then not deliver. We want to make sure our price point is fair and competitive while the cost of doing business continues to climb.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: We purchased a true sport store and changed from carrying hard goods and equipment to apparel. We do so much more than sports and we do a lot of police, fire, SWAT, K-9 and bomb squad work.
