DENVER—Colorado House Speaker Pro Tempore Claire Levy is resigning her seat to become executive director of the Colorado Center on Law and Policy.

Levy issued a statement Thursday saying term limits persuaded her to go to work for the research and advocacy organization, which promotes economic security, access to health care and fiscal responsibility.

The Boulder Democrat was originally elected to the House in 2006. Due to term limits, the 2014 legislative session would have been her last. Her resignation takes effect Oct. 31.
