FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Colorado National Guard says it launched four helicopters Friday for reconnaissance and search-and-rescue operations in the Boulder County and Fort Collins areas.
Spokeswoman Cheresa Theiral said the national guard also rescued 104 people on Thursday.
Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said Friday his agency is also hoping to get help from a reconnaissance plane used by the U.S. Forest Service to get the big picture on flood damage.
Smith said telephone service and cell phone service to Estes Park is down, and ham radio operators are relaying messages to families. He said helicopters will be used to drop food, water and other supplies to people who cannot get to shelters as soon as they can get into the mountains west of Fort Collins.
