Interview with Melanie LaFrombois, CMT

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: I have had a passion for health and wellness for as long as I can remember. I received my first professional massage after my third child was born and I absolutely loved it. I realized at that moment that I wanted to help others experience healing through massage.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: I provide an individualized therapeutic massage that is unique to each of my clients’ needs. I will typically use several types of treatments during each session. I specialize in deep tissue, Swedish, hot stone, prenatal and sports massage. I also use a TheraStim machine, which is a neuromuscular stimulator that introduces electrical signals to the body through conductive electrode pads to provide therapeutic treatment for a variety of conditions. Typically, treatments require only a few minutes each. TheraStim increases range of motion, significantly shortens the healing process from injuries or the over-use of muscles, and reduces scar tissue. I have also been told that my intuitive abilities are second to none. I pay attention to how my clients react to the therapy and adjust my massage to meet their unspoken needs.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: I love making a difference in people’s lives, improving their health and quality of life by providing a healing touch as needed. I get to see immediate results when clients walk in with chronic pain and leave my office saying that this is the best they have felt in years.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: The biggest challenge is exposure and getting in front of people who would benefit from my services. As a small-business owner, marketing can be one of the more difficult hurdles to overcome. I love meeting new clients and once I get my hands on them, they become a client for life.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: I provide a personal approach to massage therapy. Many clients who have received treatments elsewhere have been surprised to find that I focus my treatment on their specific areas of need. I don’t have a “one shoe fits all” approach to massage. I will listen to your concerns and together we work to achieve your goal. I don’t charge extra for different types of therapies. My price is set and I will not surprise you with hidden fees or upgraded charges. Many spas will charge extra for aromatherapy, hot stones or other modalities, but I will provide those treatments at no extra cost.
