5) Big Gigantic — Sept. 27-28, Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Fillmore Auditorium, $47
Itap no surprise to see Boulder natives pitching in with its neighbors to help those harmed by Colorado’s devastating floods. But few people likely expected the livetronica act to dedicate both of its big shows this week — the on Sept. 27 and on Sept. 28 — to flood-relief efforts. Now billed as a Big Gigantic Flood Relief Benefit, proceeds from both shows will go to Conscious Alliance’s flood-relief fund. Conscious Alliance will also be on site at both shows collecting money and new or lightly used clothing, cleaning and household items. Tickets for the Red Rocks show are sold out, but tickets for the Fillmore show are still available. ($47, livenation.com)
4) Blame it on the Rain — Sept. 29, Hi-Dive, $5
For the last few weeks we’ve been keeping tabs on all the events curated by local and national musicians to raise money for Colorado flood victims. Whether it be big or small, each gesture deserves much respect. On the other end of the spectrum from the previously mentioned fundraisers from Big Gigantic is the Blame it on the Rain event at the on Sept. 29. A group of local comedians and musicians are asking for $5 donations (which will be matched by Fat Jack’s Supersubs) in exchange for a charitable night of fun. Performers include , , comedians , and more.
3) Goldrush Music Festival — Sept. 27-28, Globeville, $12-$20
Goldrush Music Festival represents, the passionate and growing, analog/lo-fi/ambient (we can call it experimental) movement in Denver. With acts like the Kevin Costner Suicide Pact, Lee Noble, M. Sage & the Continent Strings, Goldrush is pulling together a good group of like-minded musicians from Denver, Fort Collins and as far as L.A. and Texas. Even with such a DIY vibe, Goldrush organizers have created a professional fest in the Globeville neighborhood, complete with sponsors from Tiny Mix Tapes, Pitchfork’s The Out Door and more.
2) Varlet — Sept. 27, Hi-Dive, $10
A nice mix of alt-country, psych and pop, Varlet represents much of what’s coming out of the Denver music scene these days. Fronted by Lilly Scott, with her charming and spot-on vocals, the band can span any number of genres in one track. Sept. 27 at the Hi-Dive, Varlet is releasing its newest album “American Hymns,” with openers Tjutjuna, Attic Attack and Champagne Charlie.
1) Bleached — Oct. 1, Hi-Dive, $12
Bleached brought one of the best sets to The Denver Postap Underground Music Showcase in July. The band’s tough, yet sentimental surf rock is bright and biting. Returning to Denver again this year, Bleached is playing at the Hi-Dive on Oct. 1. Itap the perfect spot for Bleached — low light, cans of beer, but also good people and a friendly atmosphere. Expect Bleached to shine at the Hi-Dive, possibly even more than the band did in the sunny outdoor setting of the UMS. Denver’s the Manxx is opening the show. ($12, hi-dive.com)
