Comcast’s fumble meant frustration for more than 100,000 Broncos fans in the north metro area Sunday.

Maybe if it hadn’t been during a nail-biter of a game. Maybe if it had been only for a second. But Comcast’s bad signal late during the Sunday telecast of the Broncos-Cowboys game resulted in a scrambled, digitally distorted mess of colors on the screen.

The signal was restored just before Matt Prater kicked a 28-yard field goal to clinch the Broncos’ 51-48 victory.

The official explanation: “It was a hardware failure with the router control card,” a company representative said Monday. “Unfortunately, we had an equipment failure that impacted approximately 120,000 customers in parts of the north metro Denver area (Boulder, Thornton, Arvada, Commerce City) for about an hour during the game. Fortunately, the services were restored for the last few minutes of the game.”

Outrage erupted on social media, with anger directed toward the cable company. Perhaps the best Twitter commentary came from 9News anchor Kyle Clark: “Worst jobs today: 1) Cowboys Defensive Coordinator. 2) Comcast phone support operator #BroncosChat.”
