GOLDEN, Colo.—A Jefferson County grand jury has returned a six-count indictment accusing a former volunteer fire chief of stealing approximately $643,000 in public funds from the district.
Forty-one-year-old David Roy MacBean was chief of the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that he was indicted for theft and embezzlement.
MacBean is accused of making unauthorized purchases in the amount of approximately $643,000 using the district’s credit card and bank accounts. According to the indictment, the purchases came between Jnuary of 2010 and March of 2013 and were for his personal use.
MacBean is being held Jefferson County Jail on $40,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 2.
The Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District serves 52 square miles in the foothills southwest of Denver.
