Surely by now everyone in Denver is familiar with the blue bear and the blue mustang. But are you familiar with . The band band just released a Super 8-filmed psychedelic for its surf-rock instrumental “12-6-10.” Steal the track here.
Is Denver in love with surf rock?
When the year is done, and Colorado songs of 2013 are put into lists, surely ‘ surf track “Fiends in the Night” will be solidly featured. It was in heavy rotation on OpenAir for weeks, and the creepy beach-party crawled across walls on Facebook. It was as if — before the waters rose and the Coast Guard came — that Denver had a minute when a camp fire by the ocean with Dick Dale sounded swell.
But now there seems to be a trend.
In September, The Blue Rider released a 10-song, eponymous EP of surf rock drenched in R&B and psychedelic rock. Whereas Colfax Speed Queen leans towards polished pop, The Blue Rider sounds like they were rode hard and put away wet. It’s edgy, psychedelic rock with a beat that will raise your heart rate like the adrenaline of riding big surf.
“The Blue Rider” EP is available on 10″ vinyl and electronically at the page. Download “12-6-10” below, then check them out live at opening for Austin psychedelic rock band on October 24.
Watch for a Beach Boys-esque band to emerge from Baker. If that happens, we have a trend.
