DENVER—Wildlife officials are investigating after someone shot a bull moose in Dillon and left the carcass to rot.
District Wildlife Manager Elissa Knox of Summit County tells The Denver Post ( ) the moose’s remains were found Wednesday on Tenderfoot Mountain east of a shooting range.
It appeared the animal was shot in early October, possibly during the first rifle season between Oct. 12 and Oct. 16. Officials are investigating the shooting as a possible mistaken or careless kill by an elk hunter.
Dillon is about 60 miles west of Denver.
