LAKEWOOD — David Wiechman appeared to be on his way Tuesday to a second term on Lakewood City Council.

Wiechman was leading Betty Boyd, a retired state legislator, 54 percent to 46 percent as of 9:30 p.m., with the majority of votes counted.

A member of council since 2009, Wiechman has been a lightning rod in recent years, drawing criticism from his colleagues over multiple incidents, including one in which a city employee alleged seeing an indecent image on his iPad.

But Wiechman said Tuesday he believed Ward 4 voters saw through the “red herrings.”

“People were not voting so much for me; they were voting on the issues,” he said.
