Interview with Tina Long, owner
How did you get involved in this business?
More than 23 years ago, I worked as Dr. Larry Odekirk’s medical assistant with Mile High Primary Care. I loved helping the patients and watch them fill up with confidence and personal power after we helped them. I was searching for my personal destiny to be able to work with clients one on one, when my Mom suggested that I would be good at massage. I graduated massage therapy school in 1993 and opened up my business. Since then I have grown exponentially and now own the largest spa in the Denver metro area.
What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
We are your one-stop shop for all your health and beauty needs, inside and out. We are the largest spa in Denver metro. We have 19 treatment rooms and more than 80 services. We have won Best of the Best, since, 2004. Dr. Sidney Eisenbaum (25-year plastic surgeon) performs Botox and Juvaderm Injections. Dr. Diane Schmitz, a 20-plus-year gynecology specialist focusing on issues faced by women including hormones, sexual dysfunction, weight management, incontinence and heavy menses. Our full session massage and facials are a full 60 minutes. We have 10 different types of massage offered (two pregnancy tables Mom-to-be can lay on her stomach), multiple medical lines available for custom facials for any skin type. We have been voted Best of the Best in weight loss.
What do you like best about your line of work?
We love making people feel better and/or feel better about themselves.
What is your business’ biggest challenge?
Educating consumers to know the extensive services we offer is worth the drive.
Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
I am an Army brat. Because of a broken heart, I thought about suicide at 15. I went into the Air Force Reserves at 17. I was a mechanic on the pressurization system and oxygen systems on cargo airplanes. I became a single parent when my boys were 2 and 4. I made $600 twice a month plus $400 child support and bought my first house in 1991 for $46,000. Now, I own Parker Day Spa and Parker Med Spa. Moral of the story, you can do anything.
