Sunday. Trains are apt metaphors for all manner of kid-appropriate life lessons, as the fabulously successful people behind Thomas the Tank Engine would be happy to tell you. But before that pop-culture phenomenon there was the “Little Engine That Could,” the 1930 children’s classic that extolled the virtues of hard work and determination — and that has been turned into an equally kid-friendly stage production. The nationally touring ArtPower Theatre will return with an original one-hour musical that follows Little Blue Engine’s dreams of one day leaving the train yard to pull the big cars on the main line track. Will Big Silver believe her? Recommended for ages 2-6. 2 p.m. Nov. 10, Lakewood Cultural Center, 480 S. Allison Parkway in Lakewood. $7-$12. For tickets call 303-987-7845 or visit tickets.
