SEATTLE — Colorado receiver walked into warm-ups with a walking boot. He tested his sore ankle by hopping gingerly. He went out slowly for some passes.
However, he did start. He did star. His first reception was a 53-yard TD bomb from Sefo Liufau on the Buffs’ second drive to cut Washington’s lead to 10-7.
“He came in the locker room after he went out a little while and said he could go,” coach Mike MacIntyre said. “I let him completely make the decision.”
Fifth nationally with 123 receiving yards a game, Richardson finished with three catches for 77 yards — all coming in the first half.
Michael Adkins II, Colorado’s leading rusher at 73.8 yards per game, returned after missing last week with a concussion. He didn’t start and had five carries for 26 yards.
Buffs back finally fumbles. Tony Jones’ fumble that Marcus Peters returned 53 yards for a score in the third quarter was the first fumble by a Colorado tailback this year. They entered the game having gone 234 carries and 255 total touches without fumbling.
Jones, a junior from Paterson, N.J., rushed for 14 yards on six carries against the Huskies.
MacIntyre on FG attempt. Down 24-7 with less than a minute left in the half, Colorado faced fourth-and-1 at the Huskies 34. Will Oliver was wide right on a 51-yard field goal.
Why go for a field goal already down by 17 points?
“If we could go in 24-10 and be down two touchdowns and stop them, I thought it’d be better,” Mac Intyre said.
