Moonwalker meeting
It’s not every day you can meet a true American hero. Sci-fi fans and history buffs will want to mark their calendar for Saturday, Nov. 16 when Barnes & Noble in Glendale (960 S. Colorado Blvd.) hosts iconic moonwalker Buzz Aldrin at 1 p.m. The astronaut will share a few thoughts, then sign copies of his new book “Mission to Mars: My Vision for Space Exploration.” No word from Mission Control on whether or not you can snap a picture with him.
Small wonder
Take flight with small wonders at the Butterfly Pavilion (6252 W. 104th Ave. in Westminster) for $5 on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Young and old alike can journey through the popular Crawl-A-See-Em, touch a starfish and make their way through a tropical rainforest populated with 1,600 fluttering butterflies. In fact, there are more than 5,000 animals in all. With regular admission up to $9.50, this is a great deal. Small wonders of the human kind (two and younger) get in for free.
Barrel of monkeys
Here’s proof arcade games aren’t child’s play. The Kong Off 3, the Donkey Kong world championships, come to The 1up Arcade/Bar (1925 Blake St. in Denver) from Friday, Nov. 15 to Sunday, Nov. 17. More than 20 players battle it out for a share of the $4,500 purse. Watch all the barrel-jumping, princess-saving fun for free. Crowds are expected, and when capacity is reached, a “one-in, one-out” policy will be in effect. Kong gets jumping mid-morning each day, so check start times before making plans. All ages are welcome to watch until 7 p.m., after which you must be 21 or older.
