CORTEZ, Colo.—Authorities say it could be three to four weeks before they release autopsy results for a 38-year-old inmate who was found dead in a holding cell at the Montezuma County jail.
Sheriff Dennis Spruell has said Harrison M. Begay, of Tonalea, Ariz., was initially brought to the jail on a trespassing charge at about 1 a.m. Oct. 26 but was taken to a hospital because he was “highly intoxicated.” He was returned to the jail and placed on a medical watch.
Spruell says jail staff found Begay dead in the cell at about 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 27.
Sheriff’s spokesman Ted Meador tells The Cortez Journal ( ) the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case. He declined to release any other details.
