Fall is the time of year when life shrivels up, and the new industrial album from Genessier could be the soundtrack. Steal “Emlyn” and check out the ultra creepy video.
Fans of , the popular post-rock band fronted by Ryan Policky, are in for a terrifying surprise. Policky has once again teamed up with Eddie Breidenbach, but whereas their last project, called , was a psychedelic, dreamy aural landscape of synth, Genessier is pure pure industrial terror.
Genessier’s album, “Graces the Bones,” was said to have been made in an attic, and it shows. Listening to the death metal screams over driving industrial beats draws images of horror movie climaxes where the victim has nowhere else to hide. This album is a pure cathartic release of pent-up aggression, combining the best elements of death metal and industrial, creating a uniquely petrifying brand of pissed off dance music.
But Genessier is not a complete 180 for Policky. As A Shoreline Dream, he draws references to moody post-rock like The Cure, and as A Shoreline Dream he indulges in synth to create a dreamy, ethereal sound that is more unsettling than a meditative comfort. However thin the thread between these projects, there is a tie.
