Getting your player ready...

Interview with Nicky Ekwall, owner

How did you get involved in this business?

I got involved in window sales shortly after moving to Denver from Lincoln, Neb., in 2004. I worked for several window companies over the next eight years, learning everything in telemarketing, marketing, sales and distribution. When the company I was working for decided to move to another location, the idea started formulating to start my own business. Within two months, I had found a small office/warehouse space and opened my doors for business.

What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

Nicky’s Window and Door Supply is a small, woman-owned company. Customers like my no-nonsense approach to finding them what they need in their price range. Knowing my product lines thoroughly is very important to keeping customers satisfied. Appreciating every customer is so important. Most of my growth has come from word-of-mouth referrals. Getting to know my customers on a personal basis makes my work even more enjoyable and rewarding.

What do you like best about your line of work?

I like that I provide a much- needed product and service to the community. Learning the technical aspects of windows, doors and accessories is always somewhat challenging as new product lines enter the marketplace. I really love working for myself and offering the best possible solutions to anyone who needs windows and doors.

What is your business’ biggest challenge?

Right now, my biggest challenge and my greatest satisfaction comes from being totally involved in every aspect of the business — from answering phones, creating invoices, making bank deposits, making presentations, to unloading semi trailers of windows with a forklift. My days are both demanding and fulfilling. I love what I do.

Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

Some customers are surprised to see a woman in this line of work.
