A Class 5A quarterfinal that’s a rematch — Cherry Creek beat the Cougars, the 2012 state runners-up, 28-27 on Oct. 4. … Cherokee Trail’s only other setback was 23-21 to Chatfield in the season opener, when eight significant Cougars were suspended. … The Cougars’ defense, led by S Evan White, has permitted 21 points or more just three times. … Milo Hall leads Cherry Creek with 1,278 yards rushing and 13 TDs, and Nathan Starks has eight TDs on 43 carries.

It’s one of three rematches in 5A — Fairview won 33-30 on a field goal on the final play of the game Oct. 18. … Of Pomona’s 43 rushing TDs, Chris Marquez has 29 and Lukas Russell 12. … The Panthers have scored at least 20 points in every outing but their 19-15 loss to Cherry Creek on Sept. 6. … As the only undefeated team in 5A, Fairview has been a machine and scored a whopping 467 points. … QB Anders Hill has thrown and rushed for 33 TDs.

The Rebels, state runners-up a year ago to Monarch, are on a six-game roll. … They cruised to 322 offensive yards, including 241 on the ground, last weekend in eliminating Durango 36-26. … Tyson Purifoy passed for two TDs and ran for another. … Montrose has rushed for 3,556 yards and had a season-high 67 attempts last week in outlasting visiting Montbello 31-25. … The Indians’ lone hit taken was to 5A Grand Junction, 36-33 in the regular season.
