A civil lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Commerce City over a .

The Animal Law Center said Thursday it has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Gary Branson, the owner of “therapy” dog Chloe.

Chloe, a 3-year-old at the time of the incident, was killed on Nov. 24, 2012, when police were called to a neighborhood about a dog running loose.

Police tried to capture the dog with catchpoles and using a Taser before Officer Robert Price shot the dog five times. The incident was caught on video by a neighbor.

Price was acquitted last month by an Adams County jury of aggravated animal cruelty. Two other officers who were at the scene of the incident were also named in the suit.
