Getting your player ready...

Earlier this week, fans — or media outlets rather — were in an uproar about politely asking concertgoers to wear formal attire to the band’s shows.

The Guardian put together a snarky guide to how fans should dress for upcoming shows and Twitter responses have been notably divided among fans.

Now, Arcade Fire has issued

“To everyone really upset about us asking people to dress up at our shows… please relax. It’s super not mandatory. It just makes for a more fun carnival when we are all in it together. So far these have been the best shows we have ever played.

See you soon.

Love,

Arcade Fire”

Reactions to the post, which appeared at about 3:30 p.m. MST, have been mostly supportive from fans.

One fan responded with, “I am still going to dress up – forget the haters.” Another said, “ARCADE FIRE SAYS IT YOU DO IT.”

Tickets for Arcade Fire’s 28-date tour go on sale Nov. 22. The band stops at Denver’s Pepsi Center on April 23.
