DENVER—Federal and local authorities are raiding marijuana businesses in the Denver area but aren’t releasing details about which ones are being targeted and why.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the Internal Revenue Service’s criminal investigations unit and the Drug Enforcement Administration are involved in Thursday’s action.

Spokesman Jeff Dorschner says that the operation is in accordance with recent Justice Department’s guidance on marijuana enforcement. In August, the department warned that states that legalize marijuana need to keep it away from children, the black market and federal property.

The Daily Camera reported that cut down piles of marijuana plants were piled up near grow operations as authorities executed warrants in Boulder. Photos from KUSA-TV showed agents putting boxes of a marijuana energy drink into a U-Haul truck.
